Cut Energy Bills: Build a Just, Clean Energy Future
Dear friends and community partners,
The Sierra Club Florida Suwannee-St. Johns Group warmly invites you and your members to join us for an lively community conversation this Saturday, May 23 from 1:00–3:30 PM at the United Church of Gainesville on rising energy costs, Energy Justice, and taking back our power.
Cut Energy Bills: Build a Just, Clean Energy Future
At this meeting, you’ll learn:
How the energy system is stacked against solar and in favor of fossil fuels
How local energy decisions affect your costs, and how you can influence them
What the transition to clean energy means for affordability, public health, and fairness in our community
Our panel of community leaders includes:
Jason Bellamy-Fults, CWC Advisory Board President
N’Kwanda Jah, NAACP ECJC Chair / EMPOWER Coalition
Jyoti Parmar, Energy Democracy & Environmental Justice Organizer
Jennison Kipp-Searcy, Alachua County Resiliency Specialist (Moderator)
David Hastings, Sierra Club - Suwannee St Johns Group Chair
Chuck Ross, CPA and Community Activist
You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, connect with neighbors, and leave with practical next steps you can take at home and in our community.
We’ll also provide brief updates on several ongoing local campaigns, including efforts to stop the proposed ICE detention center in Starke in partnership with North Central Florida Indivisible, and oppose the Florence landfill expansion.
Sierra Club will provide hearty refreshments, drinks, and banana splits, and, in a nod to AAPINH Heritage month, we will also have some Asian snacks - and some information on AAPINH in environmental advocacy.
Please register here or reply to this email if you would like more information.
We would love for you to attend, share this event with your networks, and help us build a broader conversation around affordable, democratic, and just energy solutions.
